Samantha Sanchez: BLDGBLKS' Marketing Whiz

separator

“I fell in love with music at the age of 5, after seeing The Wizard of Oz for the first time. Since then, I have become a student of the music industry by studying at the University of Colorado Denver. With the guidance of Joel Rekiel, I have moved from intern to Marketing Coordinator at BLDGBLKS.

BLDGBLKS has been an amazing place to use my knowledge of the industry and creative freedom, to work with artists to understand and develop their vision.

Being a Colorado native, I have a special place in my heart for the growing Denver music scene that thrives on its countless live shows. I know a live show was good if the sacrifice of having the smell of beer stuck in my nose and strangers’ sweat on me from everyone being pushed together, is overlooked by the music that made me feel alive and free.

I believe music is such a beautiful entity because you can hear a band once, and already feel like a more colorful person with a new view on the world.”

What’s your favorite part about being a Colorado native?

Knowing where all the cool spots are in RMNP. It’s the best to take newbies there, and show them CO’s hidden gems.

Describe a day in the life of Sammi Sanchez.

Usually involves keeping up with my classes at CU Denver, at least an hour of looking at pictures of dogs, checking my schedule about 20 times throughout the day, catching up on new music via Spotify, living the dream working with BLDGBLKS, and ending the night with some Netflix.

What’s on your ‘go-to’ playlist (artists, genres)?

Lorde (waiting patiently for her new album), Modern Baseball (for the pop punk kid in me), The Beach Boys, Lizzo, Childish Gambino, and a little bit of musical theatre tunes.

How about your ‘guilty pleasure’ music?

Early 2000’s hip-hop/R&B. Gotta love Missy Elliot.

What was your first concert ever?

My first concert was at the Pepsi Center with Alan Jackson and Martina McBride. My mom and I used to be obsessed with country music.

Describe your best live music experience.

Seeing The 1975 play the Fillmore in 2014 with some incredible production and sound.

What would you say your life’s mantra is/words you like to live by?

I’m a big mantra person so it’s hard to pick just one. I’d probably go with “You can get what you want, or you can just get old” from ‘Vienna’ by Billy Joel.
